Information on 'The Granny' wanted... request from Sharon in Arizona

At one time ancestors of my husband lived in Offord Cluny in a house called The Granny. I was wondering if it is still in existence and who resides in it today. My husband is related to the Candlin family and I believe a Thomas Candlin was writing a history of the village. Do you know if it was ever published?

The Offords Revisited Published

A new book about Offord called 'The Offords Revisited'has now been published and is available for sale at £5.50 from Michael Barimore on 01480 812299. It is a hard back book, A4 size with over 200 pages and about the same number of photographs.

Bogus 'Charity' Collections:

You may recently have received a leaflet entitled 'Third World Clothing Collection' that requests donations of unwanted clothes and other items.

Please be aware that the collection is being organised by a commercial company called Lunetex and not a charity as might appear from first sight of the leaflet.

Now we are not saying that you shouldn't leave your unwanted items out for Lunetex to collect if you so wish, but please be aware of their status. (Earlier this year Olonex targeted us in a similar manner. A quick search on Google will result in some interesting facts about the company.)

Offord Car Share Scheme

Is any one interested in being part of a Car Share Scheme that takes people to and from St Neots Station? This is a facility that is available in Buckden and works pretty well. We have received the following mail:

Firstly wanted to thank you for your web site. My wife, son and I are moving to Offord Cluny in the very near future and the information provided has been very useful. We visited the area the weekend just gone and found the people very friendly. We're really excited to be moving to such a nice environment.

On a different note, I wanted to ask you whether a car sharing scheme runs in the area. I commute to London during the week and would prefer not to buy a second car unless absolutely necessary. If there is - would you kindly provide me with contact details?

Please use the feedback form on the site to let us know if you are interested and we will put you in touch with Daniel

We have received the following request from Mary Barnes:

"I am setting up a branch of Contact the Elderly in Cambridgeshire - a service which helps to alleviate the loneliness felt by some elderly people. It is a totally free service and we wondered if anyone in your area might benefit from it or if anyone would like to help out by either acting as a host or a driver for our monthly tea parties."

If you are interested in helping Mary with her quest, please contact her on 01223 566522, or send an e-mail to Mary.Barnes@opp-links.org.uk.

Our website is supported by our two Parish Councils and is part of a group of sites - www.big-village.co.uk - created by Martin Hassall and David Duncan of Buckden. Perhaps you have visited their site www.buckden-village.co.uk, which is also part of the Big Village community and has won national acclaim in a review by the Sunday Times? Our grateful thanks go to Martin and Dave for their invaluable support and advice, and for providing web space for the Offords site.
